About Johanson Boatworks
Since Peter Johanson established the company in 1977, Johanson Boatworks has been involved in many custom construction projects as well as all aspects of yacht repair and maintenance. At our service facility we store and tend to our bareboat charter fleet as well as other numerous private yachts. In addition, we generally have one on-going construction project in one of our work bays.
From haul out in the fall to re-launch in the spring we meticulously care for each vessel as if it were our own. We are a full-service yard with crew experienced in rigging, finish work, awlgrip, fiberglass, carpentry, mechanical, engine, and electrical systems including installations and maintenance.

Peter Johanson
Founder and president of the company, Peter has been involved in almost every aspect of boat repair/construction and maintenance for over forty years with Johanson Boatworks. His in-depth knowledge is of crucial importance in ensuring all of the boats in the yard are repaired and maintained at the very highest level. An avid sailor, Peter began cruising the Maine coast while he was still a toddler. His affinity for the water, sailing experience, and practical skills are all put into force every day in the yard. He is respected by even the most discerning customers for his in depth knowledge of boats and boat systems. Sound decision making and an honest, efficient approach to boat repair have gained him an impeccable reputation and a large customer following.
Mary Johanson
Co-owner and financial manager for the company Mary is involved with budgeting company costs versus reasonable pricing for our customers. There is constant communication between her office and our separate departments to ensure that projects are being completed efficiently and within the allotted time. She started sailing in her late teens and being out on the water in boats has remained her passion. It gives her great pleasure to watch her customers pursue their boating dreams while knowing she plays a part in making that happen.
The Crew
The Johanson Boatworks staff are all highly trained professionals who are committed to delivering only the best in service to you. Every member of the crew is extremely dedicated to making sure that your boat is prepared to their utmost ability. The work experience & camaraderie of most of the crew dates back over 20-years. From simple repairs and general maintenance to full refits and construction projects, they strive to ensure that all of your needs are met. The number-one goal of their meticulous care is for you to have an entirely enjoyable boating experience. A couple of staff profiles are provided (for now), but every person in our crew plays an important roll in offering quality and value to our customers.
Max Johanson, Service Manager
Max began his career at Johanson Boatworks when he was 14 years old as a charter dock assistant. He grew up cruising and working on boats of all sizes through his family of boaters and the exposure he had working each summer in the charter division of the yard. The marine industry was a natural fit for him and after college he took on a full time position at JBW. Constantly learning and training in all aspects of boat repair and maintenance he grew from rigger and charter manager to become a key employee with a wide base of knowledge. He broadened his base becoming a certified NMEA2000 and MEI installer and is the go to person for any type of electronic installation. In 2016 he completed his American Boat Builders and Repairers Association: Certified Marine Service Manager course and was subsequently certified as a marine service manager.
David Jones "Jonesy", Head Mechanic/Truck driver
Jonesy has been working as a mechanic and then marine mechanic for over 25 years. He has earned service certificates from Ryder, Yanmar, Westerbeke, Southworth Milton, and ABBRA for Advanced Diesel Marine Mechanic. He has taken courses on SEAFROST refrigeration systems, ESPAR heaters and has attended many more seminars and classes throughout the years. Through his extensive working knowledge of service to re-power to new design he has gained the reputation for being the one of "the best" marine mechanics in the area and we are proud to have him in our crew.
Alan Rainey, Paint Foreman

Alan came to Johanson Boatworks in the Spring of 2016 to alter his career towards more of a management path. He has worked up and down the East Coast at many major boatyards and is regarded as one of the best, if not the best, paint/spray applicator in the industry. His expertise and management skills continue to bring our paint department to a new level. In addition, Alan is certainly not afraid to get his hands dirty, and works along with his crew on any project when help is needed. With 33 plus years of experience and his dedication to the craft he is an incredible asset. Under his tutelage our crew will continue to produce top of the line quality work in the most professional manner.
