Johanson Boatworks has a 1,440-square-foot, state-of-the-art spray-painting bay at our yacht service yard on Route 90 (Farwell Drive) in Rockland. The steel building lets us paint yachts up to 55 feet in a dedicated, climate-controlled environment, removed from other projects and unaffected by outdoor weather.
That isolation is the whole point. A heat make-up system warms incoming air so the bay holds a constant temperature even in the dead of winter, exhaust fans remove overspray immediately, and an extensive lighting system means every application can actually be seen as it goes on.

Our paint crew has experience with marine enamels, varnishes, linear polyurethanes, Awlgrip and Alexseal coatings, and is trained in the surface preparation each medium needs.
We also specialise in the fairing that hulls require after extensive repair work or new construction. A topcoat cannot hide what is under it — it advertises it. The preparation is where a paint job is won or lost, and it is the part worth paying for.

The crew comes to the task whatever it is: yearly varnish maintenance, high-gloss topsides, or a race-ready bottom. The same people who spray a full topcoat also keep brightwork alive season to season, which is the work that decides how a boat looks from the dock in August.
